Got lots and lots from them today :)

A look from the inside

Landed and ready to roll

But before all else, must put a dollar in a slot machine because it’s Vegas and when else do you find slots in the airport once you get off the plane?

LOST

Going straight to the show with my luggage. Ugh…don’t want to but gotta make the most of the day.

No appointments today. Just wandering mainly and strolling into booths of brands that I already work with. It’s always nice to see the sales reps you work with when most correspondence is only over phone or email.

I don’t necessarily have a list of things that I NEED to get for spring. Dresses and cute tops are a given but I usually allow the show and the collections tell me what I need to fill my racks with.

However, here are some trends that I’m really hoping to see and you better believe I will snatch up if present:

*Culottes! I’m obsessed. Simply obsessed.
*Super saturated colors.  While I liked the softness of the spring 2011 palette, gimme some color!
*More navajo. When don’t I want to see more of this, really?
*Voluminous maxi skirts.  Less of the form fitting type, I want early 90′s maxis to pair with short boots.
*More color blocking. Bold, bright colors all in on fashion forward garment.

We’ll see where the day leads. Just gotta trust my instinct and hopefully I buy well for my shop and your closet!

A glimspe inside the life of a buyer

It’s not all glamour and gold being the owner of a boutique.  It’s a lot of hours in a week, lots of boxes, lots of tags etc…

But there are certainly moments when this career option has highlights and today is one of them. I’m blogging from the car on the way to the airport.

PHL -> LAS. Yep, Las Vegas!

Magic is a huge trade show that happens twice a year in Vegas. Retailers and vendors come from all over the world to see and show what’s hot for the next season.

For this trip I’ll be mainly buying for Spring 2012.  It’s a fun trip but tiring. Lots of walking, too much talking and saying “No thank you”.

I’m excited to see what my current vendors will have in store as well as meet some new brands to work with!

I’m flying in today and going straight to the show. Eek.

We’ll see what the fashion world has in store for me!

Who is your celebrity fashion crush?

Who is your celebrity fashion crush?  Who has a wardrobe that you’d absolutely die for?  Who just hits the mark every time, on the red carpet, out at da club or even during a Starbucks run?

The ladies at Nich have put together their top 5 picks for you and the first contributor is me, Kristy!  I’m the owner of Nich and have always been fashion conscious, even if I wasn’t on trend.  I liked to make statements that I look back on now and think “wow…that was weird…”.  But nonetheless…I dressed for me and what I thought looked amazing at the time.

When picking my top 5, three things really struck me.  1) yep, they all do definitely have a similar aesthetic 2) there are lots of young celebs out there whose fashion choices really intrigue me and that was really cool and 3) I’m all about maintaining an appropriate level of taste while still staying fashion forward.  I’m not into seeing boobs out, legs everywhere, and being able to see where the skin stops and the Spanx start.  That’s just not my idea of sexy and stylish.

Now, admittedly, I wouldn’t necessarily wear everything that is shown in the pictures that I’ve included, but I do admire the fashion risks that’s some of these women are willing to make.  I was looking, for the most part, for wearable fashion, and not clothing for art sake or simply to make a statement.

And here are my picks, counting down from #5 to my #1 favorite fashion maven!

#5 DAKOTA FANNING : I think this young lady is the epitome of a young starlet.  She is insanely talented, grounded (she even chose to stay in high school while holding onto her ridiculously successful career), and, most importantly, dresses like a STAR!  Her choices on the red carpet are so age appropriate – very fun, flirty and chic.  Her casual style, which I’ve realized I’ve gravitated towards with every celeb pick, is just that.  VERY CASUAL.   I love a good fedora any day and the ditzy print maxi dress that looks like it came out of her grandmother’s moth ball ridden chest, is something I could live in every Spring day.

#4 DIANE KRUGER : Diane’s style is so very refined and classy.  Whenever I see her on the red carpet, I’m whisked back in time to the movie Troy where she played Helen, the face that launched a thousand ships.  She looks graceful and lovely in all of her choices.  I actually often see her in suits or 1960’s Jackie O inspired looks too, which makes me jealous that she can just pull off anything that she wants.  She’s conscious about fit, realizing that you don’t have to show a lot of leg of cleavage in order to look sexy.  Her everyday style is how I want to dress.  I’m a HUGE sucker for southwest prints and silhouettes as well as outfits that just seem to cascade from the body. For me, it’s not about showing off every curve, it’s about feeling sexy and cool no matter what you have on.

#3 ELLE FANNING : Yes, I chose the younger Fanning.  While she’s still probably a middle schooler, I think this girl is going to RULE the fashion world soon enough.  Mark my words, before she’s legally old enough to drink, she will already either have her own legitimate successful fashion label (and I’m not taking a line sold at Walmart or Kohls) or more likely, be a creative consultant for a major fashion house.  She takes risks that few teenagers would take.  She has that creative eye that Urban Outfitters can’t compete with.   Her footwear pairings alone are a great indicator that she doesn’t just love clothes, but she loves fashion.  Great job, little one!

DUN DUN DUN….getting close to #1…but first…

#2 EMMA ROBERTS : Like I mentioned before, I’m surprised that I ended up choosing a few young stars, but I guess these girls are growing up in a world where have talent is one thing, but when you have fashion know -how, it can really put you on the celebrity map (although being related to an A Lister doesn’t hurt either, no matter how depressing her father’s career is).  I don’t even know if Emma Roberts is a good actress, but I do know that her style choices are off the chizzy.  She tends to go for pieces that have just enough special detail that makes her look spot on tasteful.   My favorite outfit on her, by FAR, is that plaid button down with the cut offs and hot black booties.  She has it styled perfectly.  Anyone who knows me is well aware that an array of plaid button downs is a staple in closet.  Another outfit on here that I think it so well executed is the lingerie inspired blue and black lace dress.  It’s perfect for her age because the cleavage is tucked in, and while showing a bit of skin through the side cutouts, she keeps it just modest enough by pairing it with the black tights and simple black shoes.

And my #1 Celebrity Fashion Crush is…

** GINNIFER GOODWIN **  This actress does not get enough credit and some of you may not even know who she is, but boy oh boy, do I love the risks she takes.  While she is not exactly rocking a super model statuesque body, she certainly looks liked she just stepped off a runway.  Her styling is impeccable.  There were about 30 outfits that I wanted to post, and maybe I’ll post more later, but these show a variety of looks she works.

I love that I can’t really define her style either.  Sometimes she’s quirky, sometimes she’s vampy, sometimes she’s cute, sometimes she’s vintage (is that a word), but she definitely knows how to pull an entire look together.  I also love that she uses her hair as an accessory.  A great example of that is the dainty coral dress with the gold belt.  Chic and classy yet she pulls her hair up almost into a mohawk for a real rock n roll look that is unexpected and is just enough oomph to remind you that she knows how to play with fashion.

She is also a huge fan of color which is something that I love and do try to remind myself to incorporate into my wardrobe (neutrals lovers UNITE!).  She’s clearly unafraid of color as seen in the fluorescent yellow dress she wore to Comic-Con last week.  It receive lots of attention, both good and bad.  While I would never wear it, I think that somehow, she pulled it off.  Maybe because she kept her pixie cut very simply coifed, makeup subtle, and she stuck with nude shoes, but I could never see a Cameron Diaz or a Crackface Hilton wear this dress.  They’d look like (are) whack jobs.

My favorite of all these looks is the elegantly draped green dress she wore to the Met Gala earlier this year.  She looks so sexy but not overtly so.  Her hair has just a touch of edge and what you can’t really see is that her makeup stunningly complements the outfit.  I love the shoe that she chose to pair with the dress.  While at first glance, it doesn’t seem to go, the makeup, jewelry and clutch ties it all together.  I actually NEED that shoe.  In My Life.  NOW.

Love love love Ginnifer! Bravo on your choices in fashion, from casual to gala-wear, you hit the mark for me everytime!

New jewelry

Feathers galore from new vendor Seraphina. They are based out of San Fran and all pieces are hand assembled. Chains are vintage and all feathers are reclaimed from Thailand. Does it get more special than that? Nope.
