Day One of the Vegas Buying Trip
(Written on the plane to Vegas, posted while in hotel room)
Normally on my buying trips, I find myself on a train to New York, but this time, I’m on a plane headed to Las Vegas for MAGIC. MAGIC is a fashion trade show that takes place twice a year and it’s truly an international show. Whatever I can find in New York, I can find in Vegas plus a ton more vendors from all over the country. And buyers from all over the country will fly to Vegas too for MAGIC.
I’ve been to MAGIC three other times so I’m very familiar with the set up and the routine. While it’s always fun to buy new merchandise for the store, it’s also ALWAYS very hectic, busy, and crowded here. Thankfully, my husband is accompanying me on this trip for a third time and he’s always a great second eye (yes, he is very fashionable!). Not only that, he doesn’t mind holding my tote bags that grows heavier and heavier with paperwork, catalogs, and orders as the day goes on.
My flight is scheduled to arrive at 9pm in Vegas so I hope to get settled in and grab a late dinner – fuel for Wednesday. On Wednesday I have appointments with RD International, BB Dakota, and Free People although I plan to stop by Ya, Patrons of Peace, Blank NYC and a few other brands that we currently carry. I’ll be buying mainly for Fall and maybe a little bit of Summer. However, I did get some bad news today that a brand that I love a ton, Costa Blanca, has gone out of business. All of the Spring merchandise that we we’re supposed to receive, is never going to be made. But the good news is that I’ll be on the hunt to find a great new brand or two to fill in for them! Lemonades out of lemons, right??
Thursday will most likely be the day I look for accessories, handbags, scarves and jewelry, as well as seek out new brands. In addition, I always love visiting a separate show called POOL. POOL is all indie run, much smaller brands, up and coming, with much more excitement and innovation.
But for tonight, it’s all about resting up for tomorrow. Being pregnant in Vegas, this will certainly be a different experience. Less partying, more working…and probably more eating, haha! I can live with that!
More after the show…
